Summer Dance Intensives 2018
OVERVIEW
The Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop offers a rigorous 2-week intensive program that will help students become
more well-rounded dancers while training under teachers of different technical styles. Technique and artistry will be
emphasized with additional stretch and strengthening classes to improve students’ physical performance. During the morning
portion, students will focus on Ballet and Contemporary technique, to broaden their artistic development and technical
proficiency. Afternoons will be spent exploring additional dance and exercise genres (including Jazz, African, Modern,
Improvisation, & Yoga) to supplement their technical training, as well as learning choreography for concert. Students will
participate in 4 - 5 classes per day, Mon – Fri, for two weeks.

INTENSIVE DESCRIPTION

Ballet / Contemporary Intensive
July 30 – August 10, 9:00am – 3:30pm. (Ages 9 and older) The focus of this two-week training program is on technical training
and performance in Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance. Participating dancers will train in Ballet and Contemporary in the
morning and multiple other technical styles in the afternoon. (See above)  
Tuition: $500.00 two weeks / $350.00 one week / $80 single day

Placement class for the intensive is Saturday, July 21, 1:30 - 2:30pm.
The $15 class fee will be deducted from the
intensive tuition at time of registration.

LOCATION
2017 Summer Intensives will be held at the Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop, 2720 Del Rio Place in Davis.
Students may arrive between 8:30 - 9:00 am and be picked up between 3:30 and 3:45pm.
SUPPLIES & DRESS CODES
Dancers will need to bring a nutritious lunch, snack, and water each day with no peanut products please.
The dress code will be strictly enforced:
  • Female dancers must wear black leotards and ballet pink, white, or black tights. No Skirts please.
  • Male dancers must wear white shirts and black tights or fitted shorts.
  • All students will be required to bring properly fitted ballet slippers and jazz oxfords. Any elastic straps should be sewn on
    correctly.
  • Fitted knit warm-ups will be allowed, but no baggy sweats, etc. will be permitted.
  • It is suggested that dancers wear convertible foot tights for transition between Ballet, Jazz, Modern, African, etc.
  • Hair must be worn up and out of the face. For ballet classes, hair must be up in a tight bun off the neck.
  • Optional supplies include: knee pads for Modern, yoga mat, foot undies, tap shoes, and dance sneakers.
AUDITION CLASS
For dancers interested in the Ballet or Modern/Contemporary two week intensives, it is mandatory to attend a placement class.
If interested students have missed the placement classes, please contact the Dance Workshop to arrange one .
  • Dancers should come prepared to dance (please refer to Dress Codes). Those students who dance en pointe should
    bring their pointe shoes.
  • Dancers should arrive 15-20 minutes early to check-in.
  • Dancers must register for the audition class. (Date to be announced) The audition fee will be applied to the cost of the
    intensive tuition at the time of registration.

PERFORMANCE
Students from both the Modern/Contemporary and Ballet Intensives have the option to participate in the Summer Repertory
Concert, Aug.11
Each student will be given two complimentary tickets.

Additional Teen / Adult Dance Intensive Programs
● Dance Intensive I
For our teen and adult dancers who would like a rigorous immersion experience in technique and performance, we
offer a program that may be customized to help further training while also allowing for scheduling demands. The
tuition cost covers unlimited dance and body conditioning classes for the entire 9 week summer session, in addition to
repertory classes, where choreography will be taught for performance in the Summer Repertory Concert, Aug.11. Tuition:
$700.00

● Dance Composition
For our teen and adult dancers interested in programs that demand a lesser time commitment, we offer two repertory
classes, which provide the opportunity to perform at the Summer Repertory Concert.
We also offer the Dance Composition class, in which participants learn how to choreograph their own unique
dance with the option of performing it at the Summer Rep Concert, Aug. 10 & 11. No drop-ins, must be tuition. Class
meets twice per week. Tuition: $238.50

Dance Intensive Faculty include:

Taylor Herrera has studied classical ballet for over sixteen years, with an early focus on RAD training with Katie Heil. In
addition she has studied at the Idyllwild Arts Academy (summer program 2005), at Steps on Broadway, the Berkeley Ballet
Theater, Deane Dance Center, and the Sacramento Ballet. Her performance experience includes six consecutive seasons with
the Sacramento Ballet's annual Nutcracker.

Erika Ripley brings over 15 years of serious training in multiple technical styles including ballet, contemporary, tap and jazz.
She graduated from Ball University with a Major in General Studies and a Minor in Dance. Her ballet training includes a strong
background in Cecchetti. She currently performs with Core Contemporary Dance.

Pamela Trokanski holds a BA in Dance from Empire State College, New York, and holds a California Teaching Credential for
grades K-12 in Physical Education. She is the Director/Choreographer of the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre and The Third
Stage, a multi-generational, contemporary dance company. In her 30 years in Davis, she has received multiple Arts Contracts
from the Davis Civic Arts Commission. She has taught dance at Davis Senior High School since 1985, and was a TCAP (The
California Arts Project) faculty member, teaching for them from 1993 to 2003. She also writes as a Dance Critic for the Davis
Enterprise.

Erin Dunning is the owner of Bikram Yoga Davis, and brings over a decade of experience in flexibility and strength training.

Jenna Large Jenna began her ballet training at age four in Valence d’Agen, France. For five years, she studied under Hélène
Darroman at AVICA Danse, a small studio focused on classical french ballet technique. In 2004, Jenna and her peers were
awarded gold at the “Lion d’Or” ballet competition in Agen against many other prestigious studios in the south of France. 

In 2005, Jenna and her family moved to Chico, CA where Jenna began dancing with Chico Community Ballet at Chico Creek
Dance Centre. There, Jenna studied classical ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, and Bollywood dancing. She performed in full-
length ballets at CSU, Chico’s Laxson Auditorium, including A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, and leading roles in Cinderella, The
Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and The Nutcracker. 

Jenna has received offers to train with American Ballet Theatre, The Washington School of Ballet, Pittsburg Ballet Theatre,
Oregon Ballet Theater and Boston Ballet School. Jenna was offered a scholarship to attend Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s summer
program as well as their Graduate Program for the 2014-2015 season. There, she studied Russian and Balanchine techniques
in addition to modern and classical ballet. Her repertoire with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre included La Sylphide, Balanchine’
s Serenade, Raymonda, and Terrence Orr’s The Nutcracker. 

Jenna graduated Chico State, with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology. She has been accepted to Sacramento State’s
Doctor of Physical Therapy program for the Class of 2021. She hopes to help other dancers come back to dance after injury
and work side by side with a ballet company. She wishes to always inspire her students to dance to their full potential, achieve
their goals, and continue to find joy in this art form.
